Early July Fishing Weather 🌡️🔥🌧️

los suenos marina

Now entering our 3rd month of green season in Costa Rica, we’re seeing an uptick in the rain during the later afternoon. In terms of weather patterns, anglers can expect mostly sunny mornings with scattered cloud cover rolling in for mid-morning into early afternoon. By around 2:00pm-3:00pm, our later afternoons are punctuated with showers or heavy downpours. In July, showers usually don't last more than a couple of hours before clearing up. Despite the rainfall, Los Suenos sportfishing remains strong, with charter boats operating as usual. Since we head out onto the Pacific early, we tend to be back on shore before the showers start in the afternoon. This means we get to maximizing on our fishing time while avoiding the heavier downpours.

As far as temperatures go, on land we’re averaging around 85-87°F during the day, slightly dipping to the upper 70s to lower 80s at night. Balmy, tropical weather is always on offer here. Out on the water, inshore and offshore temperatures remain steady at around 82°F. The days can be quite hot and humid, but the cooling sea breeze helps to balance it out. Water temps inshore are around 82°F, while offshore the ocean is slightly cooler at around 77°F.

Offshore Bites 🐟🎣😁

Tuna fishing Los Suenos Costa Rica

Yellowfin Tuna is at its peak offshore in the month of July. Anglers have the chance to catch fish weighing anywhere from 50-150 pounds, and in rare cases, up to 300 pounds. These larger tuna can be found in areas of deeper water. Fishing for larger Yellowfin can often be an all-day affair, so be prepared for a thrilling chase out on the water. We have luck using live bait or a variety of lures to attract big tuna. It's important to keep in mind that landing a Yellowfin Tuna of this size requires skill, strength, and patience, but with the assistance of our professional mates, even a newbie can take part in the thrill. Most of our prizes are catch and release, but we may keep one for dinner. Yellowfin are highly prized for their delicious taste and texture. Year-round offshore and holding steady in July, we’re also seeing strong numbers of Sailfish and Marlin. Dorado (Mahi Mahi) are also abundant, ranging both inshore and offshore right now.
