Mid-October Fishing Weather in Los Suenos & Jaco, Costa Rica

Charter at Los Suenos

Although October weather in Los Sueños Marina is colder than other months throughout the year, we are still currently averaging the mid 70s to low 80s (Fahrenheit). We may have surpassed the peak of the rainy season, but Jaco still sees a significant amount of rain in the month of October. On our wettest days, you might see 0.08 inches of rain.

However, since we generally see 70% to 90% of cloud cover this time of year, the fish are more likely to bite since the cloud cover will prevent light penetration, leading to more fish coming out to bite. Wind speeds are still low at 6 MPH, so you can take advantage of the calmer seas this fishing trip.

Keep in mind, as we move into the colder months, fish are more likely to come out as cold fronts come through so they can feed more often. Now is the perfect time to get out on the water for an angler’s day.

What’s Biting this October?

With cold fronts coming in as winter approaches, more and more fish are coming out to seed on the shores of Jaco. There are many species you could look out for during your sports fishing trip:

Red Snapper

Red Snapper are common in October. Since they can grow to be over 100 pounds, when you’re looking to catch a large fish to reel in, you may need to head on a deeper reef excursion as opposed to an inshore fishing trip.

Blue Marlin

Blue Marlin may be more prevalent during the end of winter and beginning of spring, but most fishing charters bring in Blue Marlin year-round.

The Costa Rica waters in Los Suenos are plentiful, In part, due to the season’s migratory bait fish. This will be one of the largest game fish you can bring in, with some weighing in at over 1000 pounds!

Yellowfin Tuna at Los Suenos

Yellowfin Tuna

With the Tuna reform laws recently passed in Jaco and across Costa Rica, fishing for 100-pound yellowfin tuna is a great way to celebrate and end your fishing trip with the catch of the season.

Roosterfish

Roosterfish may have peaked in September, but that does not mean they left the Central Pacific. October sees its fair share of rooster fish, which are frequently sought after due to their distinctive dorsal fin.

Other fish you might catch on your lines this October include Amberjack, sailfish, red grouper, mahi-mahi, and Jack Crevalle.

Fall Activities After Fishing in Costa Rica

Although fall in Costa Rica tends to be on the rainy side, that does not mean your trip to Los Sueños Marina is going to be rained out. Although you may see upwards of 0.08 inches of precipitation in a given day, since wind speeds are generally low at around 6 mph, you can still expect excellent fishing opportunities due to the overcast weather and impending cold fronts.

Since most sports fishing trips end around 3 PM, you will still have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the fall fun and adventures Jaco, Costa Rica has to offer, whether it be a relaxing deep-tissue massage and spa treatment, a breathtaking sunset tour through the rainforest, or a delicious meal out dining on Costa Rica’s delicious, authentic cuisine.
