Costa Rica Fishing Report - June 15, 2022

How are the fishing conditions in Jaco and Los Sueños this month? You’ve come to the right fishing report. Read on to find out what to expect when you visit Costa Rica to do some deep sea or inshore fishing in June.

How’s the Weather for Fishing in Jaco?

Dorado cath at Los Suenos

It’s been a beautiful June in Jaco, Costa Rica so far, with the weather generally reflecting the typical average temperatures for this month throughout the region: between 73 °F and 87 °F. Most days have seen scattered rain showers, so we still recommend a raincoat and rubber boots for your day on the fishing charter!

When considering whether or not it’s a good day to fish, there are several weather-related factors to take into account. Amount of precipitation and how hard it falls affect fishes’ feeding behavior. The difference in air temperature versus water temperature also helps determine how often fish are willing to bite. As we track the combination of these conditions in our forecast for the rest of June, it looks like most days are going to be wonderful opportunities to snag your prize catch.

Who’s Biting?

There’s plenty of variety to be found in the waters of Los Sueños and Jaco right now, but bites by roosterfish are bringing the most fun for our inshore anglers these days. Following high tide into the shallower waters, roosterfish are chasing baitfish toward the beach, especially on cloudy days in the mornings or evenings.

Our fishing charters take you to the absolute best places to find yellowfin tuna in the country. “Green season” in Costa Rica doesn’t only mean fewer crowds and vibrantly beautiful landscapes - it also means these big fellows are out in droves. Your captain will keep an eye out for spinner dolphins, with whom tuna love to travel, so that you can cast your bait and snag a yellowfin to remember.

Wahoo season also continues this month, but because of their speed and tendency to travel alone, they can be a challenge to find - and an extra satisfying prize! They are mainly biting offshore with the dorado and sailfish, but you might also spy one closer in near a reef.

Where’s the Best Place to Stay for June Fishing?

Los Suenos Marriott

We always recommend Los Sueños for a comfortable, memorable stay and access to the best world-class fishing charters! The marina is the envy of anglers everywhere, with its populous waters and ideal seas for boating and casting a line.

The Los Sueños Costa Rica Resort is a luxurious oasis in the rainforest, and it hosts the Annual World Billfish Series Championship. Once you’re done fishing for the day, take advantage of the resort’s fantastic amenities like the spa, restaurants, casino, and 18-hole golf course.

Jaco Beach: Now Tobacco-Free

Another important note for our guests is that Jaco Beach is now formally a tobacco-free zone. The town of Jaco is becoming increasingly known for its commitment to protecting the oceans and the environment. As a popular destination in Costa Rica for tourists and surfers, keeping Jaco’s beaches clean has become a priority.

The Municipality of Garabito, the One Sea Foundation, and the Chamber of Tourism and Sustainable Commerce of the Central Pacific are all promoting this new regulation. So, when you come to enjoy the pristine waters of Jaco, make sure to leave the cigarettes in your hotel or rental home.
