While it’s a cold winter elsewhere in the world, here in Los Suenos, Costa Rica, we are enjoying our wonderful summertime. The clear skies, warm temperatures and calm, flat seas make for perfect sportfishing both in and offshore.

Offshore, we are seeing great numbers of sailfish, along with blue marlin ranging in size from 80-120 lbs., and striped marlin, ranging in size from 150-400 lbs. In addition, we have been experiencing an excellent showing of yellowfin tuna. Traveling with pods of spinner dolphins, we are seeing them daily approximately 18 miles offshore from the Los Suenos Marina. Ranging in weight from 50-200 lbs, we have been luring them in with skipjack and frigate mackerel as live bait. Smaller yellowfin in the 10-50 lbs range can be caught with cedar plugs, bullers or rubber squid lures.

The undisputed star of inshore fishing in the past few months have been the black marlin. Targeting black marlin around the shallow inshore reefs with live bait has brought us fantastic success. The apex of “bucket list” catches, these tough fighting, acrobatic gamefish put on a spectacular aerial show and are averaging in the 400 lbs. range. Catching a black marlin is the ultimate thrill for any angler, and we are making that dream come true as often as we can.

Closer in shore, we are seeing roosters in good numbers as always. For bottom fishing / deep drop, we are catching grouper in all sizes. Grouper are some of the best fish you can catch for a delicious meal after a thrilling day of Los Suenos sportfishing.

The conditions are perfect and the fish are willing – it’s time to make your sportfishing goals a reality. Speak with one of our agents and get your once-in-a-lifetime Los Suenos Sportfishing Charter booked today!
