Over twenty-five years ago, a young and passionate American captain recognized the outstanding fishing potential of Los Suenos Costa Rica. Thrilled by the unparalleled conditions, the calm, flat seas, and abundant variety of game fish, he set up shop in Herradura – a move that proved to be spot-on when only 8 years later in the year 2000, the world-famous Los Suenos Resort and Marina opened for business. Ever-innovative, Captain Tom moved his yacht into the slip and started the very first Los Suenos sportfishing charter service of its kind within the marina.

Modern Sportfishing Charter Boats

Custom built in 2013, the 36’ Custom Marcam has a top cruising speed of 24 knots powered by a QSC500HP inboard Cummings motor, and has been outfitted with top of the line electronics including a VHF radio, radar and sounder, multimedia system with CD & MP3 player, GPS Navigator, and a Fishfinder, and is equipped with custom Penn and Shimano rods and reels, a flighting chair, outriggers, below-deck live bait well, tuna tubes and an ice box to keep your catch fresh.

Tom and his first mate, Jerry, take the extra initiative to offer fishing trips that are both child and handicapped friendly, while also offering a fish cleaning and filleting service free of charge.

Captain Tom has taken first place for 4 years running in the Herradura Roosterfish Tournament, holds 7 world records, and has been featured in multiple fishing publications including: Marlin, Sports Afield, Florida Outdoors and Saltwater Fisherman. Following the construction of the 36’ Custom Marcam in 2013, Captain Tom christened his new yacht, entered her into the 2015 IGFA Offshore World Championships, and pulled 7th place in the “Top Boat & Crew” category on his new yacht’s first competition.
